1.1 - Come at me, ro's
Jun. 3rd, 2012 09:59 am[The last port had sounded... traumatic. Indeed, five years later it brings back Vasilia's memories of Sanitarium Island quite clearly, and that only from listening to network traffic.
It's getting more difficult to restrain her homesickness. And the lack of her household robots, each in their way individual and attuned to her, is never more pronounced.
She desperately needs to talk Robotics.]
For those recovered from the recent port, or any who stayed aboard-- I wonder if any of you I do not know are familiar with robotics? Mister Stark, I believe, has mentioned AI in his posting, among others. A comparative discussion on local robotic design practice or the aspects of Programmatic Intelligence might not be particularly useful in rehabilitative efforts-- but still might be a pleasant way to spend an hour or so?

[Her gardening robot. She's so fond of him.]

Date: 2012-06-08 02:57 pm (UTC)Much later, when these worlds had achieved cultural individuality and independence there came a political schism-- over many issues, primary among them the continued use of robotics and immigration limits to the newly established worlds. Those loyal to Earth tended to oppose the construction and use of robots in most capacities; anti-robot sentiment was strong. Those on the colonial planets called for the advancement of robotics and a complete separation from Earth's policy.
There was a war. Though less populous than Earth, the established worlds tended to be full of technologists with greater technical skill; these planets achieved their independence nearly as a technicality and for a time even avoided contact with Earth so thoroughly that it was half considered a myth.
Again, all of this is thousands of years past; the worlds have re-established contact with Earth, and grudging trade, but remain, staunchly-- 'The Spacer Worlds,' in contrast to Earth, and more recent Earth-loyal colonizations, 'The Settler Worlds.'
I am a Spacer; an Auroran, specifically, for that is my planet of origin.

Date: 2012-06-06 05:10 am (UTC)...perhaps she won't bother with politeness. She sounds, consequently, rather crisp.]
I'm not currently interested in anti-robotic sentiment. I miss my household robots badly and wish to talk to people who share an enthusiasm in the subject of robotics. If you have nothing else to contribute?
[Still a bit of an asshole; being a warden won't change that.]

Date: 2012-06-06 05:50 am (UTC)I'm not anti-robotic. [The same way he's not anti-alien, which is to say he is, but not virulently. He doesn't much care for most of them, but he'll tolerate them.] I'll admit that program engineering in robotics is an interesting subject, and robots are occasionally useful, but by and large I prefer other technologies.
