It's getting more difficult to restrain her homesickness. And the lack of her household robots, each in their way individual and attuned to her, is never more pronounced.

She desperately needs to talk Robotics.]

For those recovered from the recent port, or any who stayed aboard-- I wonder if any of you I do not know are familiar with robotics? Mister Stark, I believe, has mentioned AI in his posting, among others. A comparative discussion on local robotic design practice or the aspects of Programmatic Intelligence might not be particularly useful in rehabilitative efforts-- but still might be a pleasant way to spend an hour or so?

If it pleases you to discuss it you would be welcome. In this instance, at least, there is no crisis to be resolved-- I only wish to connect with other enthusiasts of the field.

It would certainly be a worthwhile use of our time.

In my universe, the field is only lately coming into its own for humanity. There is only one functioning android, but other machines of varied origin have gained sentience.

Robotics has a long history in my timeline, but instances of true sentience have been rare.

There are countermeasures built into ships to prevent such occurrences, but accidents occur. Much like organic life.

Indeed. There are no such countermeasures in ascenion robotics-- not explicitly-- but implicit limitations perform the same function.

Such accidents and generations of new thought are intriguing to me; with each generation of robotics they become more likely.

It has been a matter of discussion. There does seem to be a fear that they would emerge as a threat which makes recognising them as being worthy of rights difficult.

A fear more often than not self fulfilling. Such societal reactions are also of interest to me.

Fears frequently are. There is a wealth of fiction regarding machinery gone wild, I believe is the vernacular.

Starting, as history has it, with several religious legends, and given a name by a scientist who created an artificially-animated organic construct. 'The Frankenstein Complex.' It is vexing that in centuries humanity has not moved past something so rooted in superstition and an innate inferiority complex.

Particularly given that there are life forms who are also considered superior.

In my timeline, we have not encountered organic non-humans-- but your point certainly holds.

It was a time of uncertainty for the humans in mine, though it was the motivation they required to cure the planet's ills, such as poverty and war.
