6.0 There's the rub

It was certainly not a medical coma in any way. It was like sleep-- a long, untroubled sleep, with elements of physiological stasis to prevent muscular decay and other unwanted bodily functions.
I nearly wish I hadn't woken up. This ship looks like a dead world and the archives are full of fear and missing people. I can be no help, could have been no help. I would rather have gone on sleeping.
[Private to Sherlock after some backreading]
I am not redeemed and continue to have no idea-- or urgency to find out-- what the terms of my redemption are.
[Filtered to inmate-buddies-- Rinzler, Rhade, Dracula, Rassilon, Rex]
You are well, then?
[Infirmary filter and Sherlock]
I am going to need the services of a mentologist. I would like to discuss options for medications. It became extremely apparent during the involuntary honesty flood that my mental state is not what it was at home, and that I have had little success controlling my reactions to stress.
[Here's where pride intersects awkwardly with some kind of vestigial empathy] However I am hardly in dire need, the situation is still largely under my control: I realize that the infirmary is short staffed and there was a concern of injury resultant from the barge phenomena.

Date: 2011-10-09 08:04 pm (UTC)The only argument seems to be that it has worked before. Why it has worked before, I really don't know.

Date: 2011-10-09 08:08 pm (UTC)The mental fortitude of some individuals here cannot be denied-- but I think that this place hinders rather than helps any advance they might make toward their own benefit. The admiral a faceless psychopath, the wardens an inconsistent and largely intolerable group, the dangers overwhelming and never-ending.
This is not how a rehabilitation facility should be run.

Date: 2011-10-09 08:17 pm (UTC)Certainly. There seems to be little reason in the Admirals actions, though I somehow doubt this is his doing. It doesn't fit the pattern. Still, his behaviour is most loathsome and many of his employees are the same. And the few exceptions can do little to change anything.
Re: [Private]
Date: 2011-10-09 08:20 pm (UTC)Those exceptions keep this place from being entirely untenable, I think. But no, they cannot change the policy.
But do you really suspect that this phenomenon is beyond the Admiral's control, and not more of his caprice?
[Private]
Date: 2011-10-09 08:24 pm (UTC)Quite. Well, it shows that it could always be worse.
And as I said, it doesn't fit his pattern, no announcement, no warning, simply things happening without any apparent reason. It's also gone on for far longer than any other flood I've seen, having started in August. He might, of course, still be the culprit, but I think it shouldn't be assumed quite yet.

He cannot even control his own ship. And we are defenseless against this-- are we not?

Date: 2011-10-09 08:31 pm (UTC)Isn't it just.
We may be able to fight if we are prepared, which is why I'm trying to get the wardens to investigate this.

Date: 2011-10-09 08:33 pm (UTC)I prefer defensive tactics when possible-- if there is a way to hold off or contain the phenomenon, I would prefer that approach.

Date: 2011-10-09 08:38 pm (UTC)I would, too, [less dangerous] but considering this is the Barge, I fear that may not be an option.

Date: 2011-10-09 08:41 pm (UTC)If only there were some energy associated with the disturbances, we could contain it, create some sort of counter-polarized field.

Date: 2011-10-09 08:47 pm (UTC)Nothing has been found yet -- but not much to explain all of this has been found, anyway. Perhaps there is, after all.

I believe he intends reformation by irritating me to the breaking point.
